The Story
Sustainability is vital to Asuaire, driving their strategy and operations. Tree planting is a foundational component of their sustainability solution. Asuaire and The Forest Effect are sister companies, both led by Cristina Calvo. Thanks to Cristina's vision and interest in sustainability, Asuaire became "client zero" for The Forest Effect's reforestation solutions.
Asuaire's created a proprietary assessment tool to measure and manage their impact, including emissions, waste generation, and supplier practices. Specific certifications, such as Carbon Neutral and Sustainability Tourism Certification issued by the Costa Rican government, and B Corp, played a pivotal role in shaping the company's structure. Once the framework was in place, it gradually permeated Asuaire's day-to-day operations, supplier and partner selection processes, volunteering projects, and more.
The Impact
Asuaire stands as an example of what a sustainable company looks like, and how the travel industry can positively impact nature through reforestation. Drawing upon years of learning, implementing, and taking action, Cristina and her team created an assessment platform and sustainability design blueprint which is now used by our clients worldwide.
